Sebastià Olivella is professor at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Escola de Camins, UPC. Research activity is related to environmental and geotechnical thermo-hydro-mechanical numerical modelling involving unsaturated soils and rocks. This includes swelling/collapse deformation during hydration of barriers and geotechnical structures, vapor migration, gas flow induced by corrosion/degradation or underground injection of fluids, non-isothermal flow and deformation, among others. He has been recognized by awards for papers published in several journals, as for instance the 2009 Geotechnical Research Medal (ICE, London). He has been dean of civil engineering school
